The narrative weaves through tense covert operations, complex relationships, and the contrasting settings of peaceful island landscapes and criminal underworlds, deftly melding danger and desire.
Patty Almond delivers the kind of romance I want to read. There is intrigue, adventure, and tension mounting through every scene with a clever, detailed exploration of emotions. I enjoyed how the author weaves backstories into the characters' lives, allowing their pasts to influence their current actions and predicaments. Katelyn’s journey is one of awakening—realizing her strength in the surrounding chaos and questioning her assumptions about love and safety. The relationships are layered with tension: Katelyn’s innocent flirtation contrasts sharply with the manipulative schemes of the cartel operatives and Noah's protective instincts, whose haunted past influences his moral choices. Long Term Surrender features an idyllic setting, and the vivid imagery associated with these locales is compelling. This stunningly imagined and skillfully plotted romance begins a series I do not want to miss.

When Katelyn agrees to a Caribbean cruise with her sister and brother-in-law, she unwittingly becomes a mule in a high-stakes handoff with one of the most feared drug cartels in Mexico. The holiday gets even more hectic when sparks start to fly with her tall, dark, and sexy tablemate, who also happens to be the undercover fed tasked to take her down, resulting in a pulpy and page-turning vacation adventure. Paced to perfection, this novel doesn't attempt aspirations beyond pure entertainment, but it is highly successful in that category, with a number of surprising twists that separate it from other cookie-cutter vacation thrillers.
